5. Changing the shower control.

Caravanners are always mindful of not wanting to waste water. So most follow the wet down; soap; rinse off routine. To easily control the flow of water, some prefer to change the shower head for a trigger-controlled head, but others like having both hands free. I’m one of them! So my solution is as follows.

Remove the shower hose from the tap base and replace it with 15mm compression fittings – preferably chrome-plated ones. These fit together using short lengths of 15mm copper tubing (no need for chrome plating.) The fitting to control the water flow is a 15mm levered ball valve. Finally, the shower hose is connected to the last fitting, which in my case is a 15mm angled connector.

For first-time use, turn on the ball valve then adjust the taps to give the required temperature of water. Thereafter, leave the taps open; only using the lever on the ball valve to control the water flow.

All the fittings can be purchased in Wickes or B&Q, but probably cheaper online.
